On the following pages are digital photos taken during the trip. Most of them were taken from inside the plane and the fidelity is greatly effected by the windshield which after 53 years is showing noticeable discoloration. Also, the images have been reduced in size and memory to provide for reduced downloading time. In spite of the reduced photo memory size, download may take a while. The original photos have been reduced to 800 pixel width size and further reduced for page display to 400 pixel width.

The morning weather report for the intended route to Sitka was bad with dense fog and cloud cover reported. The airport was closed to all flights. Juneau was also reporting IFR only conditions. As a result it was decided to lay over a day and hope for better conditions the next day.


DAY 5
KETCHIKAN TO JUNEAU
Thursday, July 12, 2007

Flight weather had improved considerably overnight at Ketchikan and there was some promise that Sitka might open in late morning. Therefor , it was decided to take off and head for Sitka with hope that it would open up enough to permit approach. The visibility at Ketchikan looked good toward the west and Sitka. An early ferry trip was made across Tongas Narrows to the airpot The scenery was beautiful after takeoff but as we approached Chatham Strait the clouds became thicker and offered a solid barrier over Baranof Island. Kake was considered as an alternate but we decided to go to Petersburg instead in preference to a possible overnight stay. Also it was reported that Juneau was forecasting improvement. After landing and fueling at Petersburg , we took off for Juneau and landed there for an overnight stop. Hotel accomodations were scarce and we finally ended up at the Super 8 near the airport but remote to downtown. The total flight distance for the day was 346 nautical miles in about 4 hours flying tinme.

DAY 6
JUNEAU TO CORDOVA
Friday July 13, 2007

For the sixth day of our trip, after checking the weather, we departed Juneau and headed west toward Glacier Bay and Cape Spencer. Visibility was good until we approached the cape. We turned up the coast and visibility became restricted by both higher and low clouds.. As a result , it was necessary to follow the shoreline at low altitude. At Yakutat we were able to land for lunch, fuel and a chat with State officials regarding property we own in the at Icy Bay. We continued on up the coast to Icy Bay but low fog clouds precluded out planned visit to Chaix Hills.We continued on to Cordova where we landed at the city airstrip about a mile from town. A local pilot came by and gave us a ride to twon and we spent the night at the Reluctant Fisherman Hotel.

The distance flown during the day was approximately 186 miles to Yakutat and 195 miles from Yakutat to Cordova for a total of 391 miles in about 4 1/2 hours flying time
